BUYER GUIDE / ROUND TUBE DIMENSIONS

How to specify round paper tube dimensions

Diameter and height are a starting point. A usable specification also describes the lid, base, insert and the way the packed object comes out.

Packaging reference illustrating Round paper tube dimensions

Name each measurement and its unit explicitly. A photograph does not establish a stock size or an available manufacturing range.

MeasurementMeaningWhat may change it
Internal diameterSpace available across the insideBody construction, liner and holder
Usable internal heightSpace actually available to the packed itemBase, lid engagement and insert
External diameterFinished outside width of the tubeBody and wrap construction
Total external heightFinished height including the closureLid depth and base assembly

Supply diameter and height with units, quantity, destination and artwork status. Mark internal versus external dimensions and ask for the proposed tolerances on the drawing; there is no universal clearance inferred from these examples. Non-round packs instead need oriented length, width and depth.

How do I specify the dimensions of a round paper tube?

Specify the packed item’s widest diameter and full height, then distinguish the required internal diameter and usable internal height from the finished pack’s external dimensions. Include the lid, base, insert and removal method. Confirm the final dimensions on a project drawing and physical sample.

BEFORE YOU START

A few useful answers.

Practical questions for a better packaging brief.

Can I measure a tube from a photograph?

No. The photograph supplies a visual reference, not a dimensional drawing. Measure the real packed item and review the usable internal dimensions on a drawing and physical sample.

Does nominal bottle capacity determine tube size?

No. The cap, pump, shoulder, widest diameter and filled weight vary independently of nominal volume. Supply the complete container dimensions.

Why is usable height different from total height?

The base, lid engagement and any holder occupy different parts of the finished pack. A section drawing shows the space actually available to the contents.

Is there one clearance for every paper tube?

No. Agree dimensions and tolerances for the chosen structure, contents and removal method, then approve them on a sample.
